NCP MP Supriya Sule Seeks Withdrawal of Security, Vehicles

Mumbai: Lok Sabha member and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Saturday requested the Maharashtra government to withdraw the police security cover and official vehicles provided to her, citing the “severe” economic and energy crisis facing the country.

In a message on social media addressed to the Chief Minister’s Office, with CM Devendra Fadnavis tagged, Sule said India was currently facing a “grave economic and energy crisis”, making it necessary to use fuel and other resources judiciously.

“Against this backdrop, I humbly appeal to the govt to immediately withdraw the police security provided to me, along with the vehicles assigned for my protection,” she said.

The Baramati MP said the situation could be reviewed after the country overcomes the prevailing economic and energy challenges, and her “security cover may be restored if found absolutely necessary”.

“However, under the present circumstances, I request that the police personnel and vehicles deployed for my protection be withdrawn,” Sule added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently appealed for austerity amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, suggesting steps such as reducing petrol and diesel consumption, using metro rail services in cities, carpooling, increased use of EVs and working from home to conserve foreign exchange.
