Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday dismissed any cracks in the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc, asserting that the alliance remains united despite recent developments involving Congress support to the Tamil Maanila Congress (TVK) and the DMK's request for a seating change in the Lok Sabha.
Raut's Statement on Alliance Unity
Speaking to reporters, Raut said, "There are no cracks in the I.N.D.I.A bloc. The alliance is strong and united. Such issues are part of political dynamics and do not affect our collective goal of defeating the BJP." He emphasized that differences over seat-sharing or local alliances are normal in a coalition and do not signify a split.
Congress Support to TVK
Raut's comments came after the Congress party extended support to the TVK in Tamil Nadu, a move that some saw as a potential strain within the I.N.D.I.A bloc. However, Raut downplayed the significance, stating that regional parties have their own strategies and alliances. "The Congress has its own calculations in each state, and we respect that. It does not mean the bloc is weakening," he added.
DMK Seeking Seating Change in Lok Sabha
On the DMK's request for a seating change in the Lok Sabha, Raut said, "The DMK has been a Congress ally for many years, and DMK was also with the BJP at some point of time. Such adjustments are routine in parliamentary politics." He clarified that the I.N.D.I.A bloc has not discussed the matter officially and that it is an internal issue of the DMK.
Background of the Issue
The DMK, a key ally of the Congress in Tamil Nadu, recently sought a change in its seating arrangement in the Lok Sabha, reportedly to accommodate its growing strength. Meanwhile, the Congress's support to the TVK, a rival party in the state, raised eyebrows among opposition partners. However, Raut's remarks aim to allay fears of any discord within the alliance.
Sanjay Raut, a senior leader of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), is known for his role in coordinating the opposition bloc. His statement reinforces the narrative that the I.N.D.I.A alliance remains focused on challenging the BJP in the upcoming elections.
