Odisha's Rs 173-cr Kalamandal Cultural Complex Nears Completion

The Rs 173 crore Kalamandal project, envisioned as Odisha's largest cultural complex, is moving closer to reality as construction gains momentum near Sainik School in Bhubaneswar. Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the mega project, which includes a 2,000-seat state-of-the-art auditorium and a 500-seat open-air theatre. He directed senior officials to fast-track the remaining work to ensure early completion.

Review and Site Visit

The minister conducted a site visit and held a review meeting with officials of the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), the executing agency, and the Odia language, literature and culture department. Kalamandal is expected to become a landmark destination for large-scale cultural performances and events.

Quality and Safety Emphasis

Emphasizing quality along with speed, Suryabanshi asked officials to conduct regular review meetings and ensure strict adherence to construction standards. He underlined the need for robust fire safety measures, adequate illumination, and modern facilities. The minister noted that the project is progressing through coordinated efforts of the department and IDCO.

Incorporating Expert Inputs

Inputs from eminent personalities in the field of art and culture are being incorporated to make Kalamandal a world-class venue. The minister stated, "Kalamandal will be completed at the earliest and formally inaugurated thereafter." He added that the complex will play a crucial role in promoting Odia culture nationally and globally.
