The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district, effective until June 27. The alert warns of winds expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, along with the possibility of widespread heavy rain.
Weather Conditions and Impact
According to the IMD, the orange alert indicates that weather conditions are likely to worsen, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant as waterlogging and localized flooding may occur. The wind speeds could also cause damage to vulnerable structures and uproot trees.
Precautionary Measures
Authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors during the alert period. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the Karnataka coast. The district administration is on high alert, and emergency services have been mobilized to respond to any incidents.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and have deployed teams for quick response. People should follow safety guidelines and stay updated through official channels,” said a district official.
