Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has asserted that 'secular parties' cannot stop the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and called upon Muslims to forge an independent political leadership. Speaking at a public event, the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing it of treating Muslims merely as a vote bank rather than as citizens with legitimate rights.
Owaisi's Critique of Secular Parties
Owaisi argued that traditional secular parties have failed to counter the BJP's rise effectively. He stated that these parties often use Muslim votes for their electoral gains but do not address the community's core concerns. According to Owaisi, the only way forward is for Muslims to develop their own leadership that can independently represent their interests in the political arena.
Attack on TMC and Mamata Banerjee
Taking aim at the TMC, Owaisi remarked that West Bengal could have achieved significant development if Mamata Banerjee's party had treated Muslims as equal citizens rather than as a vote bank. He accused the TMC of exploiting Muslim support during elections while neglecting their socio-economic upliftment. Owaisi's comments come amid ongoing political tensions in West Bengal, where the TMC and BJP are locked in a fierce battle for influence.
The AIMIM chief's statements have reignited debates about Muslim political representation in India. While some see his call for independent leadership as a pragmatic step, others view it as divisive. Owaisi, however, remains steadfast in his belief that Muslims must chart their own political course to secure their rights and interests in the country's democratic framework.
