Owaisi Accuses TMC, Others of Exploiting Bengal Muslims for Votes
Owaisi: TMC, Parties Exploit Bengal Muslims for Votes

Owaisi Alleges Exploitation of Muslims in Bengal by TMC and Other Parties

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday made strong allegations against the Trinamool Congress and other political parties in West Bengal, accusing them of exploiting Muslims for votes while failing to deliver on promises for the community's development. Speaking at a poll rally in Naoda, Murshidabad, Owaisi emphasized the need for greater political representation and economic progress for Muslims in the state.

Historical Voting Patterns and Lack of Improvement

Owaisi highlighted that Muslims in Bengal have consistently voted for governing parties or alliances over the past 50 years, including the Congress, Left Front, and Trinamool Congress. Despite this long-term support, he asserted that their socio-economic condition has seen little to no improvement. He pointed to statistics showing that only 7% of state government employees are Muslims, even though the community constitutes approximately 30% of Bengal's population.

"We have joined hands with Kabir for the sake of Muslims in Bengal, to ensure greater representation of the community in political decision-making and for their true development," Owaisi declared, referring to his alliance with Humayun Kabir's Aam Janata Unnayan Party. "Together, we will give a jolt to Mamata Banerjee and her party. Time has come to elect Muslim netas who can bring about your economic development."

Call for Economic Development and Secular Leadership

In his address, Owaisi urged the electorate to support leaders who can drive economic development while upholding India's secular and inclusive values. He criticized both the BJP and TMC for what he described as violations of this spirit. "It's time exploitation of Muslims stopped. To ensure that, elect netas who can ensure economic development while remaining true to the secular, inclusive spirit of India, which is being violated by both BJP and TMC," he told the large gathering.

Later, speaking to reporters, Owaisi clarified his stance on the SIR issue, stating, "We oppose SIR. Our writ petition on this matter is still pending before Supreme Court. Citizenship is not within the purview of EC." This comment underscores his ongoing legal and political challenges against certain policies.

Key Points from the Rally

  • Allegations of vote exploitation by TMC and other parties without tangible benefits for Muslims.
  • Statistics on low Muslim representation in government jobs despite high population share.
  • Alliance with Aam Janata Unnayan Party to boost Muslim political influence.
  • Criticism of BJP and TMC for undermining secular principles.
  • Emphasis on electing leaders focused on economic development for the community.

Owaisi's remarks come amid heightened political activity in Bengal, with his party aiming to carve out a niche by addressing the concerns of Muslim voters. The rally in Murshidabad, a region with a significant Muslim population, signals his strategy to mobilize support ahead of upcoming elections.
