Phagwara Congress MLA Slams AAP Government Over Unannounced Power Cuts
Phagwara Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over the frequent unannounced power cuts in the region. He accused the government of failing to ensure a reliable electricity supply, causing immense hardship to residents and businesses alike.
MLA Demands Immediate Action
In a statement issued to the press, Dhaliwal said that the power cuts are occurring without any prior notice, disrupting daily life and economic activities. He urged the state government to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and ensure uninterrupted power supply. The MLA also warned that if the situation does not improve, he would lead a protest outside the power department office.
Dhaliwal further alleged that the AAP government had made grandiose promises during the election campaign but has failed to deliver on its commitments. He pointed out that the power sector in Punjab is in a state of crisis, with frequent breakdowns and inadequate maintenance of infrastructure.
Public Inconvenience Mounts
Residents of Phagwara have expressed frustration over the erratic power supply, which has been particularly severe during the hot summer months. Many have complained that the unannounced cuts damage household appliances and disrupt work-from-home arrangements. Small business owners, especially those in the industrial areas, have reported losses due to sudden shutdowns.
The Congress MLA demanded a transparent schedule for power cuts and compensation for those affected. He also called for an inquiry into the management of the power distribution company and accountability for officials responsible for the lapses.
Government Response Awaited
As of now, the AAP government has not issued an official response to Dhaliwal's allegations. However, sources within the power department indicated that they are working to address the issue and improve the supply situation. The MLA's criticism comes at a time when the opposition is stepping up its attack on the ruling party over various governance issues.
Dhaliwal concluded by saying that the people of Phagwara cannot be held hostage to the government's inefficiency and demanded immediate action to end the unannounced power cuts.
