Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday declared that the Beating Retreat ceremony, scheduled for the evening, serves as the formal conclusion of the Republic Day celebrations while powerfully highlighting the strength of India's rich military heritage. Through a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister expressed immense pride in the nation's armed forces, who remain steadfastly committed to safeguarding the country.

Ceremony Showcases Discipline and Valour of Armed Forces

"This evening, the Beating Retreat ceremony will be held. It symbolises the conclusion of the Republic Day celebrations. In it, the strength of India's rich military heritage will be displayed. We are extremely proud of our armed forces who are dedicated to the defence of the country," PM Modi stated. He added that the prestigious event vividly showcases the discipline, traditions, and valour of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The annual ceremony, held at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi, draws deeply from military tradition. It features captivating performances by the bands of the three services, blending patriotic and classical music to create a solemn and stirring spectacle that resonates with national pride.

Defence Minister Confirms Timing and Significance

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that the event would commence at 5.00 pm, officially bringing the Republic Day festivities to a dignified close. In his post on X, Singh described the ceremony as a solemn and dignified tradition that marks the end of the celebrations.

"At 5.00 pm today, the 'Beating Retreat' ceremony will be held at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi. This ceremony is a solemn and dignified tradition that brings the Republic Day celebrations to a close," the Defence Minister affirmed.

Traffic Advisory Issued for Smooth Conduct

In preparation for the event, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory. To ensure the smooth conduct of the ceremony and facilitate the movement of participating contingents and officials, traffic restrictions will be enforced from 4 pm to 6 pm.

During this period, Vijay Chowk and several key connecting roads will remain closed to general traffic. The affected areas include:

  • Raisina Road
  • Krishna Menon Marg
  • Sunehri Masjid roundabout
  • Kartavya Path between Vijay Chowk and the Rafi Marg-Kartavya Path crossing

Commuters Advised to Plan Alternate Routes

Authorities have urged commuters to plan their journeys in advance and utilize alternate routes to avoid inconvenience. Recommended alternative pathways include:

  1. Ring Road
  2. Ridge Road
  3. Aurobindo Marg
  4. Safdarjung Road–Kamal Ataturk Marg
  5. Rani Jhansi Road
  6. Minto Road
