Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a two-day tour of Sikkim, engaged in a friendly football match with young students, sharing photographs of the event on social media. The match took place as part of his visit to celebrate the state's 50 years of statehood.
Energising Football Session
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, "Clearly, an energising football session with these youngsters!" The post included multiple images showing the Prime Minister actively participating in the game, kicking the ball and interacting with the children. The event was held at a local sports ground, with the children visibly excited to play alongside the Prime Minister.
Celebrating Sikkim's 50th Statehood
PM Modi's visit to Sikkim is primarily to mark the 50th anniversary of the state's accession to India. Sikkim became the 22nd state of India on 26 April 1975. During his visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend various cultural and official events, highlighting the state's development and heritage.
The football match was a spontaneous addition to his itinerary, reflecting his emphasis on youth engagement and sports. The Prime Minister has often used sports as a means to connect with young people across the country.
Local authorities reported that the event was well-received, with children expressing joy at the opportunity. The Deccan Herald originally reported the story, noting the Prime Minister's active participation.
This visit underscores the central government's focus on northeastern states, with several infrastructure and welfare projects being inaugurated during the trip. The football session, however, captured public attention for its informal and energetic nature.
