PM Modi Launches Scathing Attack on TMC Government in West Bengal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a sharp critique of the Trinamool Congress government during a public rally in Singur, West Bengal on Sunday. He declared that the people of West Bengal have made up their minds to remove the ruling party from power. Modi described the fifteen-year tenure of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's administration as a period of "mega-jungleraj."
Rally Focuses on Change and Development
The Prime Minister visited West Bengal with a dual purpose. He launched multiple development projects with a combined value exceeding Rs 830 crore. He also officially started three new Amrit Bharat Express train services. These trains will connect Kolkata with New Delhi, Varanasi, and Chennai.
"A very large number of mothers, sisters, and farmers have come," Modi told the enthusiastic crowd. "Everyone has come with the same hope that we want real change. Everyone wants to change the 15-year mega-jungleraj."
He drew a parallel with Bihar, stating the BJP had previously ended "jungleraj" there. He expressed confidence that West Bengal is now prepared to say goodbye to the TMC's version of it.
Allegations of State Government Obstruction
Modi accused the state government of actively blocking central welfare schemes from reaching Bengal's citizens. "I want to serve people of Bengal, but the TMC government prevents benefits of central schemes from reaching them," he asserted.
He provided a specific example, claiming that while the central government created a digital platform to register fishermen nationwide, the TMC administration has put a stop to its implementation in the state.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the central government's commitment to developing eastern India. He highlighted West Bengal's inherent strengths, including its large rivers, extensive coastline, and fertile land. "Every district of West Bengal has something special," Modi said. "The BJP will further enhance this strength of every district."
Infrastructure Projects Inaugurated
During his visit, Modi inaugurated several key infrastructure projects:
- The new Jayrambati-Barogopinathpur-Maynapur railway line.
- A train service between Maynapur and Jayrambati.
- The foundation stone for an Extended Port Gate System in Hooghly district. This major project includes an Inland Water Transport terminal and a road over bridge at Balagarh.
Spanning approximately 900 acres, the port project aims to significantly improve cargo handling efficiency. It is also designed to reduce traffic congestion in urban areas.
Modi emphasized the central government's sustained investment in the region's infrastructure. "In the last 11 years, the Central Government has made a very large investment in the capacity expansion of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port," he stated. "Under the Sagarmala scheme, roads have also been constructed to improve the connectivity of this port. We can all see the result of this today."
Vande Mataram as a Development Mantra
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister connected his visit to the 150th anniversary of the song Vande Mataram. He noted that a special discussion was held in Parliament to honor the song and its composer, Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
He highlighted the special connection between the Hooghly region and the patriotic song. "It is said that it was right here that Rishi Bankim Ji gave Vande Mataram its full form," Modi remarked.
He proposed a new role for the iconic phrase. "Just as Vande Mataram became the proclamation of independence," he said, "we must also make Vande Mataram the mantra for developing West Bengal and India."
The rally and project launches come at a crucial political moment. The BJP is intensifying its campaign for the high-stakes West Bengal assembly elections, which are scheduled to occur within the next three months.
