Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Launches Scathing Attack on BJP Government in Assam
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra delivered a powerful and critical address during a series of election rallies in Assam on Wednesday, directly targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. In a fiery speech, she accused the BJP-led administration of attempting to establish what she termed a "double Ghulami government" in the state, alleging that this would effectively reduce the people of Assam to a state of slavery.
Allegations of 'Double Slavery' and Foreign Subservience
Addressing a poll rally in Nazira, where opposition leader Debabrata Saikia is contesting as the united alliance candidate, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made bold claims about the government's intentions. "In the last election, Modi ji used to say they would run a double-engine government, but instead they have run a government of double slavery," she declared emphatically. She further alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become "a slave of America" and that due to his policies, the entire nation is facing a crisis.
Priyanka did not stop there; she also targeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, labeling him as Modi's "slave." She asserted that together, they aim to suppress the people of Assam through this double-slavery governance model. "Modi ji has become a slave of America, and because of his policies, the entire country is in crisis. And Himanta ji is a slave of Modi ji, and together they want this double-slavery government to suppress the people of this beautiful and self-respecting state," she stated.
Rallies in Tea Garden Playgrounds and Broader Accusations
Later, at another rally in Khowang for Assam Jatiya Parishad candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Priyanka expanded her criticism. "The truth is they have made the country a slave of America and Israel. Just as Modi ji serves Netanyahu and Trump as a slave, your CM serves Modi ji as a slave. Both want the people of Assam to remain in slavery," she claimed. She reminded the audience that Assam is a land of great saints, leaders, and warriors who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom struggle, adding defiantly, "The one who can suppress this public has not been born yet."
These back-to-back rallies in Nazira and Khowang were strategically held at tea garden playgrounds on the same day Prime Minister Modi began his visit to upper Assam. This region is considered electorally influential, impacting at least 35 assembly constituencies, highlighting the political significance of Priyanka's statements.
Specific Grievances and Promises from the Congress Leader
In Tingkhong, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra raised several pressing issues affecting Assam. She alleged that employment opportunities are declining, inflation is rising sharply, and the state's Chief Minister is deeply engrossed in corruption. She also joined the growing chorus demanding "Justice for Zubeen," referring to the iconic singer Zubeen Garg, who tragically died in Singaporean waters last year.
"Zubeen Garg was the voice of Assam, but the state government has failed to deliver justice to his family," she lamented. Offering a concrete promise, she assured, "Our government is committed to giving justice to Zubeen Garg within 100 days."
On the long-standing demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status by six communities in Assam, including the tea tribes, Priyanka pointed out that BJP leaders, from Prime Minister Modi to Chief Minister Sarma, had made promises but failed to deliver over five years. "If they had to give it, they would have given it in five years," she remarked critically, questioning the government's commitment.
Call for Change and Alliance Readiness
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra concluded her addresses by expressing confidence in the united opposition alliance, of which Congress is a key part. She asserted that this alliance is fully prepared to bring about a new government in Assam. "We will give you a government that you will be proud of," she promised, aiming to inspire hope and rally support among the electorate.
Her speeches also included allegations that women in Assam are being compelled to work as BJP workers and attend rallies of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister in exchange for benefits under government schemes, adding another layer to her critique of the current administration's practices.
