The Punjab Congress on Thursday demanded a thorough probe into alleged money laundering following Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids in Punjab and questioned the AAP government over what it termed contradictory statements on recent blast incidents in the state.
Warring Calls for Comprehensive Investigation
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring sought a comprehensive investigation after ED raids at the premises of a person allegedly close to those in power. In a statement, Warring said visuals showing cash being recovered during the raids had 'exploded the myth' of those claiming to be 'kattar imaandaar'.
'Once probed properly and thoroughly, this will just be the tip of the iceberg,' he said, adding that Punjab had been 'bled to bankruptcy' during the past four years.
Opposition Leader Raises Concerns
Leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa said if the BJP-led Union government failed to reveal the complete facts in the case, it would strengthen perceptions that the BJP and AAP were acting as 'two sides of the same coin'.
Contradictory Statements on Blasts
Warring also questioned the differing statements made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav regarding the recent blasts in Jalandhar and Amritsar. While Mann had alleged BJP involvement, the DGP had attributed the incidents to Pakistan's ISI.
'People of Punjab want to know who is correct, the CM or the DGP,' Warring said, adding that such sensitive matters should not be reduced to political blame games. He further asked why no FIR had been registered against the BJP if the chief minister believed the party was behind the blasts.
Bajwa's Challenges
Bajwa also questioned whether the Punjab government was implying any link between the BJP and Pakistan's ISI. He said issues involving national security should not be handled through contradictory public statements. He challenged the chief minister to register FIRs if he believed BJP leaders were involved in the blasts and initiate legal proceedings.
Bajwa said if such allegations could not be substantiated, the BJP should consider legal action against the chief minister. He called for a fair and professional investigation into all blast incidents in Punjab.
