A 21-year-old tourist from Punjab drowned in a stream in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, on Tuesday, police confirmed on Thursday. The victim, identified as Anshtej, a resident of Kapurthala, was visiting the scenic Parvati Valley with friends.
Incident Details
According to police, Anshtej was bathing in a local stream in the Jainala area when strong currents swept him into deep water. His friends raised an alarm, prompting locals to rush to the scene. They pulled him out and took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police Response and Advisory
Police registered a case and stated that the body would be handed over to the family after a postmortem examination. In light of the incident, the Kullu administration and police have issued a cautionary advisory. They urged tourists and locals to stay away from rivers, ravines, streams, and other fast-flowing water bodies, emphasizing that water levels and currents can rise suddenly during the monsoon season, making them extremely dangerous.
Safety Precautions
Authorities have stressed the importance of adhering to safety guidelines, especially during the monsoon months. Tourists visiting the Parvati Valley are advised to avoid venturing into streams and rivers, as unpredictable currents pose a significant risk. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the hazards associated with water bodies in hilly regions.
