Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being solely concerned with the survival of his government rather than the future of the country's children. Speaking at a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi highlighted rising unemployment and inflation as evidence of the government's failures.
Gandhi's Accusations
Rahul Gandhi stated that the Modi government has done little to address the concerns of the youth. He said, "PM Modi only cares about the survival of his government, not the future of your children. The youth are unemployed, prices are rising, and the government is busy with political stunts." Gandhi also criticized the government's handling of the economy, citing data that shows a rise in joblessness and a slowdown in growth.
Unemployment and Inflation
The Congress leader pointed to recent reports indicating that unemployment has reached a 45-year high. He argued that the government's policies have favored the wealthy while ignoring the common man. "Inflation is eating into the savings of the middle class, and there are no jobs for the youth. This is the reality of 'achhe din'," Gandhi remarked, referring to the BJP's 2014 election slogan promising good times.
Government's Response
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dismissed Gandhi's allegations, accusing him of spreading misinformation. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "The Congress party has no vision for the country. Rahul Gandhi should look at the achievements of the Modi government in infrastructure, digital India, and social welfare." Patra also highlighted the government's efforts to boost employment through schemes like Make in India and Startup India.
Political Context
The attack comes ahead of crucial state elections and the 2024 general elections. The Congress party is trying to regain its footing after a series of electoral defeats. Rahul Gandhi has been increasingly vocal in criticizing the Modi government on economic issues, hoping to galvanize support among the youth and the middle class.
Impact on Youth
Gandhi emphasized that the future of India's children is at stake. "Every parent wants their child to have a bright future. But under this government, dreams are being shattered. We need a government that works for the people, not for itself," he said. The Congress leader also promised that if his party comes to power, it will provide employment guarantees and control inflation.
The rally in Madhya Pradesh is part of the Congress party's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0' aimed at connecting with the masses and highlighting issues of public concern.
