Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant Addresses CDR Leak in Ashok Kharat Case
Maharashtra minister Uday Samant on Sunday responded to the CDR leak issue in the Ashok Kharat case, claiming a feeling is gaining traction among people that political hurdles are being created for "a person from a common household", a reference to deputy chief minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde.
Allegations of Calls Between Shinde and Kharat
Activist Anjali Damania alleged on Friday that at least 17 calls were exchanged between Shinde and Kharat during an unspecified period in the past. Damania stated she received Kharat's Call Detail Records (CDR) on WhatsApp from an unknown number, sparking controversy.
Samant's Response and Political Implications
In response to questions about the alleged calls, Samant said, "It is wrong to create such political hurdles for a person from a common household. This feeling will get traction in the minds of people." He met with NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar and noted that even his party could feel its leaders are being targeted.
Samant asserted that such allegations will not impact Shinde's work or leadership, adding, "People's affection for Shinde will only increase." He emphasised the Shiv Sena's stand that the entire CDR episode should be probed thoroughly without naming specific persons. Shinde, described as the third number leader of NDA, is seen as the voice of the common man.
Background on Ashok Kharat's Arrest
Ashok Kharat was arrested on March 18 for allegedly raping a woman over three years. Subsequent investigations have uncovered a host of crimes, including sexual assault and financial irregularities linked to land and other properties.
