Shivraj Chouhan memoir: PM Modi's strength in humility, trust

NEW DELHI: Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in his memoir 'Apnapan', reflects on his 35-year-long association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that Modi's strength is not confined merely to his policies and programmes but is powered by the trust he generates in others.

Modi's Humility and Participatory Spirit

Chouhan writes, 'I have often heard Modi say that he is also a karyakarta like one of them. He does not merely say it but lives it as well. This spirit of participation and humility is his real strength.' According to Chouhan, this is why Modi's popularity and acceptance among the masses remain as high today as they were in the early days of his premiership.

A Memorable Incident from 2014

Recalling a specific instance, Chouhan describes an investors summit in 2014 when he was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. As per protocol, he proceeded to leave the venue to see off the Prime Minister at the airport. However, Modi held his hand and asked him to remain there to continue discussions with delegates, emphasizing that it would benefit the state more. 'The summit's success and investor convenience were more important to him than personal recognition or protocol formalities,' Chouhan notes.

The Bond That Began in 1991

Chouhan's book traces the bond that began during the 1991 'Ekta Yatra', a journey for national unity. The memoir delves into the evolution of their relationship over three and a half decades, highlighting moments that showcase Modi's leadership style and personal qualities.

Through these anecdotes, Chouhan aims to present a portrait of a leader who is not only a strategist but also a deeply humble and approachable figure, dedicated to the welfare of the nation and its people.
