Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday stated that he would abide by the decision of the Congress high command regarding his continuation as the chief minister. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah said, "I will abide by the high command's decision. There is no question of me staking claim to the post."
Speculation Over Leadership Change
The statement comes amid growing speculation about a possible change in leadership in Karnataka, with some reports suggesting that the Congress high command is considering replacing Siddaramaiah. However, the chief minister dismissed such speculation, saying that he is focused on the development of the state and the implementation of the party's guarantees.
Focus on Development and Guarantees
Siddaramaiah emphasized that his priority is to ensure the effective implementation of the Congress party's five guarantees, which include free electricity, free bus travel for women, and financial assistance to women heads of households. He added that the government is working tirelessly to fulfill these promises and that there is no room for any distraction.
Party Unity and Discipline
The chief minister also highlighted the importance of party unity and discipline, stating that all Congress leaders in Karnataka are working together under the guidance of the high command. He urged party workers to focus on strengthening the organization and preparing for future elections.
Siddaramaiah's remarks come a day after a meeting of Congress legislators in Bengaluru, where the party's state leadership discussed the way forward. The meeting was attended by several ministers and MLAs, who expressed their support for the chief minister.
Reactions from Political Circles
Political analysts believe that Siddaramaiah's statement is aimed at putting an end to the rumors about a leadership change and demonstrating his loyalty to the party high command. Some opposition leaders, however, criticized the chief minister, accusing him of being indecisive and failing to address the state's issues effectively.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders in Mysuru expressed confidence that Siddaramaiah will continue as chief minister, given his experience and the party's performance in the recent elections. They also dismissed reports of any discontent within the party ranks.
