Mahua Moitra alleges egg-pelting by BJP workers

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers hurled eggs and stones at her in a coordinated attack in West Bengal's Plassey area. In a post on X, she accused the local police of watching the incident without intervening.

Video evidence and social media posts

Moitra shared a video on X showing a crowd surrounding her vehicle. She tagged the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal and the state police, urging them to disperse the mob. "Past 2 hours & your police is watching the fun & not dispersing the mob. They want me to flee & they will pelt eggs/stones while I enter my car. Please do your job. Disperse the mob. Am in NH Dhaba Plassey," she wrote.

In another post, Moitra claimed the attack was premeditated, pointing to BJP flags visible in the crowd. "These are no public outbursts. These are coordinated BJP attacks. See the BJP flags," she said.

Political reactions and context

The incident comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where TMC and BJP are locked in a fierce rivalry. Moitra, a vocal critic of the BJP-led central government, has often been targeted by party workers, she claims. The state police have not yet issued a statement on the matter.

This is not the first time Moitra has reported such incidents. In 2023, she had filed a complaint after alleged harassment by BJP supporters during her election campaign.
