ED Freezes TMC Bank Accounts Worth Rs 440.42 Crore
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has frozen Rs 440.42 crore in bank accounts of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), prompting the party to accuse the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of political vendetta. In a statement, the TMC said all funds held in its bank accounts have been fully and transparently disclosed to the Election Commission and the Income Tax Department.
TMC Alleges Political Motive Behind ED Action
The TMC described the ED's move as a "hallmark of BJP's politics," asserting that the central agency is being used to target opposition parties ahead of elections. The party claimed that every donation received has been reported as per legal requirements, and the freezing of accounts is an attempt to cripple its financial operations.
ED Investigation Continues
The ED action is part of a broader investigation into alleged financial irregularities, though the TMC maintains its innocence. The party has vowed to challenge the order legally, calling it a violation of democratic norms. The development comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where the TMC and BJP are locked in a fierce rivalry.
