Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra on Wednesday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of deploying its workers disguised with BJP flags and scarves to incite unrest following the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2026. Patra's remarks came amid reports of post-poll violence in the state.
Patra's Allegations Against TMC
Speaking to the media, Patra said, "TMC workers are deliberately using BJP flags and scarves to create a false narrative of violence. They are trying to incite unrest and blame our party." He emphasized that the BJP has never resorted to violence in states where it is in power. "In all the states where our government is in power, we have never resorted to violence against anyone," Patra added.
Post-Poll Violence in West Bengal
The state has witnessed several incidents of violence after the election results were announced. Patra claimed that the TMC is orchestrating these incidents to tarnish the BJP's image. He urged the Election Commission and central forces to take strict action against those responsible.
Patra's statements come as the BJP gears up for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, where it hopes to unseat the TMC government. The political atmosphere remains charged, with both parties trading accusations of misconduct and violence.
Meanwhile, the TMC has denied the allegations, accusing the BJP of trying to destabilize the state. The Election Commission has assured a thorough investigation into the incidents of post-poll violence.
