A tragic incident occurred in Gorakhpur on Saturday evening when a three-year-old girl lost her life after falling into a vessel filled with boiling sugar syrup. The accident took place in the Bansgaon area, approximately 30 kilometers from the district headquarters, where preparations were underway for a wedding ceremony scheduled for May 12.
Details of the Incident
According to local residents, several confectioners, including the victim's father, were busy preparing sweets for the wedding guests. The child was playing nearby when she accidentally slipped and fell into a large container of hot sugar syrup that was kept on the fire. The boiling syrup submerged her body, causing severe burns.
Immediate Response
Upon hearing her screams, the father immediately pulled her out of the vessel. In the process, he sustained burns on his hands. Several others who rushed to help also suffered minor burns. The critically injured child was first taken to the Community Health Centre in Bansgaon, where doctors provided primary treatment before referring her to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.
Medical Condition and Outcome
Doctors at the medical college reported that the girl had suffered more than 60 percent burn injuries and developed large blisters across her body. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and underwent treatment for nearly four hours. Despite the efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday evening.
Context and Safety Concerns
This heartbreaking incident highlights the dangers of open cooking areas, especially during large gatherings where children may be present unsupervised. The use of large vessels with boiling liquids in outdoor or semi-open spaces poses a significant risk to young children. Local authorities have urged families to ensure that children are kept away from cooking zones during such preparations.
The wedding preparations, which were meant to be a joyous occasion, turned into a tragedy for the family and the community. The father, who suffered burns while rescuing his daughter, is receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
