TVK MLA J C D Prabhakar Set to Become Tamil Nadu Speaker

The Tamil Nadu Assembly is set to witness a smooth transition of leadership as J C D Prabhakar, the TVK MLA representing the Thousand Lights constituency, has officially filed his nomination for the position of Speaker of the 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly. He submitted his nomination papers to Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan on Monday.

Unanimous Election Expected

Since Prabhakar is the only legislator to have filed the nomination for the Speaker's post, he is poised to be elected unanimously. Assembly sources confirmed that the positions of Deputy Speaker and Leader of the House will be decided on Tuesday, with no elections anticipated for these roles.

Leadership Appointments

According to TVK sources, former minister K A Sengottaiyan is likely to be appointed as the Leader of the House, given his status as the senior-most MLA in the assembly. In the previous DMK government, former minister Duraimurugan held the position of Leader of the House, while former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam served in the same capacity during the AIADMK government from 2018 to 2021.
