UP Congress Condemns State Government Over Noida Factory Unrest and Police Action

In a sharp critique of the Uttar Pradesh government, the state Congress unit has launched a forceful attack regarding the reported unrest at a factory in Noida on Monday. The party alleges that workers protesting over wage issues were subjected to police action, highlighting what it calls "anti-worker and anti-youth policies" of the administration.

Allegations of Police Brutality and Inadequate Wages

State Congress president Ajay Rai stated that at Motherson Industries, laborers had been agitating for the past three days over wage-related concerns. Instead of receiving justice, they were met with lathicharge and tear gas. Rai emphasized, "Inflation cannot be addressed through advertisements, and tear gas shells cannot answer empty stomachs."

He further claimed that workers' salaries saw only marginal increases of Rs 250-300 despite years of service, deeming this raise inadequate. Rai argued that the laborers' demands for fair wages, timely increments, improved working conditions, and better safety standards are fully justified given these circumstances.

Congress Accuses Government of Favoring Industrial Interests

Rai alleged that the state government is ignoring the legitimate concerns of workers while favoring industrial interests. He held the state administration directly responsible for the escalation of tensions at the factory and called for immediate intervention to address the grievances of the laborers.

The Congress party has put forth several demands in response to the incident:

  • Acceptance of the workers' "legitimate demands" regarding wages and working conditions.
  • Free medical treatment for those injured during the protest.
  • Action against officials and company management found responsible for the situation.
  • Establishment of a minimum monthly wage of Rs 25,000 for workers across Uttar Pradesh.

Congress Pledges Support and Calls for Dialogue

Reiterating the party's support for the protesting laborers, Rai affirmed that Congress would stand firmly with workers in their struggle. He urged the government to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve the issue peacefully and address the core concerns of the workforce.

The incident has sparked significant political debate in Uttar Pradesh, with the Congress positioning itself as a champion of workers' rights against what it portrays as an indifferent state administration. The party's statements reflect broader tensions over labor policies and economic justice in the state.
