In a significant political development in Maharashtra, former minister Vinayakrao Patil has quit the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) and joined the Shiv Sena. Patil, along with former Shiv Sena (UBT) Latur district chief Santosh Somvanshi, was inducted into the Shiv Sena at a ceremony held in Thane on Monday.
Political Shift in Maharashtra
The induction ceremony marked a notable shift in the state's political landscape. Vinayakrao Patil, who previously held a ministerial portfolio, decided to part ways with the NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar. His move to the Shiv Sena is seen as a strategic realignment ahead of upcoming elections.

Alongside Patil, Santosh Somvanshi, who served as the Latur district chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction led by Uddhav Thackeray, also switched allegiance. Both leaders were formally welcomed into the party by senior Shiv Sena functionaries during the event.
This development underscores the ongoing political realignments in Maharashtra, where parties are consolidating their positions. The Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has been actively expanding its base by attracting leaders from rival factions.
Political analysts suggest that Patil's defection could influence other NCP (SP) members to reconsider their affiliations. The move also highlights the fluid nature of alliances in Maharashtra's political arena, where loyalty shifts are common ahead of elections.
