Yogi Adityanath Slams SP, Congress Over Women's Quota Bill

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress party for their opposition to the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament. Speaking at a public event, the Chief Minister accused both parties of harboring an anti-women mindset and obstructing the empowerment of women in the country.

Yogi Adityanath's Remarks on Women's Quota Bill

Addressing a gathering in Lucknow, CM Yogi Adityanath said that the double-engine government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to women's empowerment. He highlighted that the Women's Reservation Bill, which seeks to reserve 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women, is a historic step towards gender equality. However, he expressed disappointment that parties like the SP and Congress are opposing the bill, reflecting their regressive attitude towards women.

The Chief Minister further stated that these parties have always been against the welfare of women. He cited examples of their past actions, including the lack of representation for women in their own party structures. Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the BJP government at the Center and in Uttar Pradesh has implemented several schemes for women's safety, education, and financial independence.

Reactions from Opposition Parties

The Samajwadi Party and Congress have rejected the allegations, stating that they support women's reservation but have concerns about the implementation and the lack of OBC sub-quota within the bill. They argue that the bill, as proposed, does not adequately address the representation of women from backward communities. However, CM Yogi Adityanath dismissed these arguments as excuses, accusing the opposition of trying to mislead the public.

The Women's Reservation Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha during a special session of Parliament. It has been a long-standing demand of women's rights activists and political leaders. The bill requires a constitutional amendment and needs to be passed by both houses of Parliament and ratified by at least half of the state legislatures.

Government's Commitment to Women Empowerment

CM Yogi Adityanath reiterated that the BJP-led NDA government is determined to pass the bill and ensure greater participation of women in the political process. He said that the opposition's stance is against the spirit of the Constitution, which guarantees equality to all citizens. The Chief Minister also urged the public to support the bill and reject parties that oppose it.

The event was attended by several BJP leaders and supporters who echoed the Chief Minister's views. The Women's Reservation Bill is expected to be a major talking point in the upcoming elections, with the BJP using it to highlight its pro-women policies.
