Lucknow: Ahead of the day-long special session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday to discuss the Opposition’s blocking of the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill in Parliament recently, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the media. He stated that the discussions would focus on the efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring the dignity, respect, self-reliance, and empowerment of women on one hand, and the anti-women stance of members of the INDIA bloc on the other.
CM’s Remarks on Opposition’s Stance
The Chief Minister emphasized that by supporting the bill, these parties had one chance to redeem themselves, but they wasted the opportunity, further sealing their anti-women mindset. He accused these parties of being continuously engaged in efforts to prevent the amendment and the Act from being implemented. “They should now explain to the public why they opposed the bill,” he said.
Special Assembly Session
The special session of the Assembly is expected to witness heated debates as the ruling party seeks to highlight the Modi government’s commitment to women’s empowerment while cornering the opposition over their alleged obstructionist tactics. The Women’s Reservation Bill, which seeks to reserve one-third of seats in Parliament and state legislatures for women, has been a long-standing demand but has faced repeated hurdles in Parliament.
Adityanath’s remarks come amid a broader political campaign by the Bharatiya Janata Party to portray the INDIA bloc as anti-women, especially after the bill was stalled in the Lok Sabha due to opposition protests. The Chief Minister also noted that the people of Uttar Pradesh would judge the opposition parties for their actions.
