The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has officially invited applications for the selection of a Chairperson and two members to serve on the National Sports Board (NSB). This recruitment drive is conducted under the provisions of the National Sports Governance Act 2025 and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules 2026, according to a press release issued by the Union Sports Ministry.
Selection Process and Eligibility
The appointments will be made by the Central Government based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee, as outlined in Rule 3(3) of the National Sports Board (Search-cum-Selection Committee) Rules, 2026. Candidates must be individuals of ability, integrity, and standing, possessing knowledge or practical experience in fields such as public administration, sports governance, sports law, or related areas.
The salary and other terms and conditions for the Chairperson and Members of the NSB will be governed by the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026.
Role and Functions of the National Sports Board
The National Sports Board will serve as the central authority for granting board recognition to National Sports Bodies. It will also ensure compliance with governance, financial, and ethical standards across sports organizations in India.
Application Process and Deadline
Eligible persons can submit their applications through the designated online portal. The last date for submission of applications is July 22, 2026.
Task Force for Motorsports Development
In a related development, on June 20, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) established a task force to monitor motorsports, with the goal of bringing Formula 1 racing back to India by the end of 2028. According to an MYAS source, the task force will monitor motorsports activities and submit its findings to the Ministry.
Earlier, Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) President Arindam Ghosh attended a meeting with the Sports Ministry in New Delhi. He stated that efforts are underway to bring Formula 1 back to India by 2030, along with a round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) and MotoGP by 2028.
Speaking at the FMSCI Annual Awards function, Ghosh said, "The meeting with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State Raksha Khadse, senior officials and potential stakeholders in New Delhi, focused primarily on bringing F1, MotoGP and a round of the WRC to India." He added, "The Federation stressed the need to develop Indian drivers and the overall development of motorsports in India, and the FMSCI's inputs were well received."
