Kangana Ranaut Slams Opposition for Parliament Disruptions on Winter Session Day 1
Kangana Ranaut Criticises Opposition Over Parliament Ruckus

The Winter Session of Parliament commenced on a chaotic note this Monday, with repeated disruptions and adjournments dominating the proceedings. Actor-politician and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, Kangana Ranaut, launched a sharp critique against the Opposition, blaming them for deliberately obstructing parliamentary business.

Ranaut's Scathing Attack on Opposition Conduct

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament building, Kangana Ranaut attributed the disruptions to the Opposition's growing frustration following a series of electoral defeats. "The more they lose, the more frustrated they become. The Congress and the rest of the parties have reached a point of desperation," she stated. The BJP MP emphasized that the conduct was damaging the Opposition's public image. "The entire nation is watching, and they are lowering themselves in the eyes of the people and losing election after election," Ranaut added.

She highlighted the practical impact of the sloganeering and protests, noting that all important business scheduled for the day could not be taken up, leading to the House being adjourned for two hours.

A Day of Adjournments and Sloganeering

The first day of the session was marred by continuous disturbances. Between 11 AM and 2 PM, the House witnessed three adjournments, allowing for only about 50 minutes of legislative work. Opposition leaders persistently raised slogans of "vote chor, gaddi chod" and demanded a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country.

Despite repeated requests from the Chair, the sloganeering continued unabated, forcing the adjournments. This persistent disruption created a significant hurdle for the government's legislative agenda on the opening day.

Key Legislative Business Introduced Amid Chaos

In the brief window of functioning, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman managed to introduce several important bills. She presented the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, for consideration and passage.

Explaining the context, Sitharaman said, "The Central government amended the Central Goods and Services Act of 2017... These changes came into effect in October 2025 after more than half of the states updated their GST. But unfortunately, Manipur GST could not happen in time as the state assembly was in a suspended mode." Her statement was delivered against the backdrop of ongoing protests.

Additionally, the Finance Minister also introduced the Health Security se National Security Cess Bill, 2025 and the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025 via a voice vote.

Implications and National Watch

The events of the day set a contentious tone for the entire Winter Session. Kangana Ranaut's comments underscore the deepening political rift, framing the disruptions as a sign of the Opposition's "growing desperation" rather than substantive debate. With the nation's eyes on Parliament, the inability to conduct scheduled business raises questions about productivity and political decorum in the upcoming sessions. The stage is now set for a potentially turbulent parliamentary period.
