Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma Urges Railways to Restore Vital Rail Services in Parliament
In a significant move aimed at boosting regional connectivity and passenger convenience, Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma on Monday raised a crucial demand in Parliament. Through a Special Mention, Sharma called for the early restoration of several long-pending rail services that have historically linked key regions, emphasizing their importance for mobility and economic activity.
Highlighting the Kalka–Barmer Express as a Critical Link
Sharma specifically highlighted the Kalka–Barmer Express, describing it as an essential rail link that has historically connected Kalka, Chandigarh, and parts of Himachal Pradesh with major cities in Rajasthan. He noted that this route has long served a diverse group of passengers, including senior citizens, students, patients, and traders, facilitating travel and commerce across states.
The MP emphasized that the restoration of this service is vital for maintaining affordable and reliable transportation options in the region.
Other Key Services Flagged for Revival
In addition to the Kalka–Barmer Express, Sharma also flagged the significance of other important rail services. These include:
- The Himalayan Queen
- The Paschim Express
- The Amritsar Mail
These trains operate between Kalka and Amritsar and have historically provided dependable and economical travel options for residents and visitors alike. Sharma pointed out that their discontinuation or irregular operation has adversely affected regional mobility.
Call for Action in Public Interest
Sharma requested that the Indian Railways consider restoring these services promptly, citing the public interest and the need to support regional economic activity. He argued that reliable rail connectivity is crucial for fostering trade, tourism, and overall development in the connected areas.
This appeal in Parliament underscores the ongoing efforts to address infrastructure gaps and enhance transportation networks for the benefit of communities across northern India.
