The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Shimla has deployed a 30-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team at the APMC complex in Dhali to enhance preparedness for potential natural disasters during the monsoon season. The deployment, effective from July 1 to September 30, aims to ensure rapid response to emergencies such as landslides, floods, road blockages, and building damage.

Coordination meeting held with NDRF officials

A coordination meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (Protocol), Shimla, Jyoti Rana, on Wednesday. The meeting brought together officers and personnel of the NDRF to discuss strategies for swift relief and rescue operations. Detailed deliberations focused on inter-departmental coordination, resource availability, communication systems, and enhancing the overall emergency response mechanism.

Jyoti Rana emphasized that the district administration is fully alert and committed to managing any disaster or emergency during the monsoon. She directed the NDRF team to maintain constant coordination with the district administration, police, fire and emergency services, and other relevant departments to ensure prompt relief and rescue operations whenever required.

Preparations and public advisory

The district administration has ensured all necessary preparations in view of the monsoon season and is continuously monitoring sensitive areas. Jyoti urged the public to adhere to guidelines and advisories issued by the Meteorological Department and the district administration. She also advised residents to immediately report any emergency situation to the District Disaster Control Room or concerned administrative officials.

The deployment of the NDRF team is part of a proactive approach to mitigate the impact of monsoon-related disasters in the region, which is prone to landslides and flash floods during heavy rainfall.
