Bengal to install 24x7 CCTV in all urban local bodies

Kolkata: Municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul has announced that all the 128 urban local bodies and three industrial townships in Bengal will be placed under 24x7 CCTV surveillance to combat administrative paralysis and ensure seamless delivery of civic services.

Scope of the Initiative

The mandate covers 121 municipalities, seven municipal corporations, and three industrial townships. High-definition monitoring systems will be linked directly to Paul's office. The move comes after reports that many ULBs have reportedly descended into absenteeism.

Minister's Statement

"The CM has directed me to maintain a strict watch," Paul said. She also flagged "deplorable scenes" at state hospitals. "I have asked the health secretary to ensure cleanliness in all facilities," Paul added.
