Bengaluru ORR Development Final Plan After Resident Consultation: Minister
Bengaluru ORR Development to Be Finalised After Resident Consultation

Minister Announces Resident Consultation for ORR Development

Krishna Byre Gowda, Karnataka's Minister for Revenue and Bengaluru Development, stated that the comprehensive development plan for Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR) will be finalised only after consulting local residents. The announcement came during an inspection of the proposed road work stretch from Silk Board Junction to Byappanahalli Metro Station.

Inspection Details and Scope of Work

The inspection, conducted on 3 July 2026, focused on the comprehensive road development project aimed at easing congestion on one of Bengaluru's busiest corridors. The stretch from Silk Board to Byappanahalli covers approximately 12 kilometres and includes multiple junctions, flyovers, and underpasses. The project is expected to involve widening of roads, improvement of drainage systems, and better pedestrian facilities.

Resident Feedback to Shape Final Plan

According to the minister, the government is committed to a participatory approach. “The final design will incorporate suggestions from residents, local businesses, and commuters. We want to ensure minimal disruption and maximum benefit,” Gowda said. He added that multiple public meetings will be held before the plan is approved.

Timeline and Next Steps

The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) has been directed to compile a detailed project report (DPR) within three months. Following the DPR, a series of public consultations will be scheduled. The minister emphasised that no construction will begin until all stakeholder concerns are addressed. The project is part of a larger initiative to improve Bengaluru's infrastructure ahead of the 2030 global events.

Background and Significance

The ORR, which circles Bengaluru, handles over 200,000 vehicles daily and is notorious for traffic jams. The Silk Board Junction is one of the most congested points in the city. Previous development attempts have faced criticism for lack of transparency and poor execution. The current government aims to avoid past mistakes by ensuring community involvement from the outset.
