Berhampur Deploys Additional Forces After Violent Attacks

Berhampur: In response to a series of violent incidents, the police have deployed an additional five platoons of forces in the silk city to maintain law and order. The decision comes after two recent attacks where miscreants brutally assaulted their rivals in full public view at different locations.

Strategic Deployment and Flag March

Superintendent of Police (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M stated on Wednesday that the forces will be positioned at strategic locations, particularly during evening hours, to prevent any untoward incidents. Police personnel have been conducting flag marches in various areas of the city, including Lanjipalli and Ankuli. The flag march, led by the SP himself, was aimed at boosting public confidence.

The police have also requested the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) to ensure proper street lighting at all strategic locations. Patrolling across the city has been intensified, the SP added.

Recent Incidents Spark Action

The measures follow two recent incidents. On May 16 evening, a young couple was beaten up by miscreants at Giri Road. Two days ago, a history-sheeter was attacked with sharp weapons at Ambika Nagar. Earlier, another man was targeted by a group that attempted to push him off the Haladiapadar overbridge.

Police reported swift action, with almost all accused involved in these heinous crimes arrested. Five accused sustained injuries during encounters while trying to escape police custody. A search is ongoing for those still absconding. They will be nabbed soon, assured the SP.

Vigil on Antisocial Elements

The SP revealed that the police have prepared a list of over 100 antisocials in the city. We are keeping a strict vigil on their movements and activities, he said.
