Water Supply Disruption Hits Bicholim and Mayem Residents
Residents across Bicholim and Mayem faced significant hardship over the weekend as water supply was severely restricted due to ongoing pipeline work by the Public Works Department. Despite advance notice from authorities, many households found themselves without adequate water for daily needs.
Affected Areas and Limited Supply
Limited water reached only some neighborhoods on Saturday morning, including Sonar Peth and Atil Peth. However, the situation was much more dire in other parts of the region.
Multiple areas received no water at all, including Bordem, Krishnanagar, Gothneshwar Wada, Bhailipeth, Lakherem, Govind Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, and Sarvan, along with other sections of Mayem.
Pipeline Relocation Work Causes Disruption
The Public Works Department had been working on shifting pipelines in Bordem from private property to government-owned land. The department had properly informed residents about the planned work through announcements made on both Friday and Saturday.
According to technical staff, water needed to be released from the system to ensure proper fitting of the pipeline valves. Local resident Pravin Teli confirmed that while water was available on Friday, supplies had completely run out by the next day.
Resident Struggles and Official Timeline
Umesh Teli, another local resident, highlighted the challenges faced by families. "Some people have storage tanks, but it will not be enough for two days for families with more members," he explained, emphasizing the particular difficulty for larger households.
PWD officials estimated that the work would be completed by Saturday evening. They indicated that if the pipeline surface hardened as expected, water could be released by night. However, normal water supply is expected to resume only by Monday morning or later.
The situation has underscored the dependency on consistent water supply and the challenges residents face during essential infrastructure maintenance, even with prior notification from authorities.
