Coimbatore Third in National Panchayat Awards 2025

Coimbatore district has achieved third place in the 'Best District Panchayat' category at the National Panchayat Awards 2025 (NPA-2025). This recognition places Coimbatore as the only district from Tamil Nadu to be selected for this honor. A total of 42 panchayats from across the country were chosen, and the award ceremony is scheduled for June 3.

Award Categories and Ranking

The National Panchayat Awards are conferred under two categories: the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) and the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP). Coimbatore district has been ranked third under the NDSPSVP category.

Financial Incentives

Winning panchayats receive financial incentives ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 5 crore under the Incentivization of Panchayats (IoP) scheme. Coimbatore district will receive Rs 2 crore as a financial reward for its achievement.

Official Statement

Sanket Balwant Waghe, Additional Collector (Development) of Coimbatore, stated, "Unlike previous years, this is the first time that we are receiving the award for the district as a whole. Earlier, Keeranatham panchayat received the award under the Best Self-Sufficient Infrastructure category. One of our panchayats was also shortlisted for the DDUPSVP but did not make it to the final winners."

Consistent Recognition

For three consecutive years, panchayats from Coimbatore district have been awarded the National Panchayat Awards, highlighting the district's sustained excellence in local governance and development initiatives.
