Delivery Agent Killed in Hit-and-Run in Ghaziabad

A 25-year-old delivery agent working for an online grocery application lost his life in a hit-and-run incident while en route to a delivery in Indirapuram during the early hours of Tuesday.

Incident Details

According to police, the victim, identified as Rohit alias Pankaj Baisla, a resident of Arthala in Ghaziabad, was struck by an unidentified four-wheeler in front of the Indian Petrol Pump around 2:00 am on Tuesday. A passerby discovered Baisla injured on the road and alerted the authorities. Police arrived at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

Police Response and Investigation

ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Srivastava stated that Baisla’s brother, Akshay, filed a police complaint. An FIR has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Indirapuram police station. Multiple teams have been constituted to apprehend the accused, and authorities are examining CCTV footage from the area.

Traffic Enforcement Drive

On May 9 and 10, the traffic police conducted a special enforcement drive across the city. During this operation, checks were carried out, and challans were issued for drunk driving, unauthorized use of hooters and sirens, pressure horns, and modified silencers — identified as major contributors to road accidents. Teams were deployed at 23 key locations throughout the district.

During the drive, 127 individuals were fined for drunk driving, 289 for using pressure horns, hooters, and sirens, and 170 for employing modified silencers. A total of 5,657 challans were issued over the two-day period.
