Guwahati: Senior advocate Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the advocate general of Assam for another term of five years. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a post-cabinet meeting briefing on Wednesday.

Second Consecutive Term

Saikia will hold the position of advocate general for the second consecutive term. He previously served in the same role during the last term of the Sarma-led government. He stepped down from the post on May 6, following the end of the tenure of the previous government. Saikia became the youngest advocate general of Assam in May 2021 and served a full five-year term before his reappointment.

Additional Roles

In addition to his role as the state's advocate general, Saikia also holds the position of secretary in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He has also served as the secretary of the Assam Cricket Association.
