The Dharwad District Registration and Stamps Department (Dasta) Deed Writers Trust has urged the state government to retain the paper-based registration system, arguing that the transition to paperless digital registration through the Cauvery software has led to significant hardships for the public and document writers.
Concerns over paperless registration
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, trust president Shantaraj Pol stated that registrations have been conducted via paper-based processes for many years. He alleged that the paperless registration system through Cauvery software is inadvertently aiding the land mafia. "With the paperless registration process, it is not known whose property it is, who bought it, or who sold it," Pol claimed.
Problems with digital implementation
Pol noted that the state government first implemented paperless digital registration in Chamarajanagar, presenting it as a success. However, he asserted that numerous issues have arisen. He pointed out that other states follow a model where both paperless and paper-based registration systems coexist, suggesting that Karnataka could adopt a similar approach to benefit all stakeholders.
Employment concerns
The trust president warned that exclusive implementation of paperless digital registration would render hundreds of document writers jobless. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the decision. Pol clarified that the trust has no objection to paperless registration if it is implemented alongside the existing system. He cautioned that failure to do so would inevitably lead to a struggle.
Vindogowda Patil, Ramachandra Salunke, Rukaminibai Chalawadi, and others were present during the press conference.
