The Drug Control Authority (DCA) in Jammu and Kashmir carried out a series of raids in the Kulgam district, targeting medical stores suspected of stocking and selling illegal and expired medicines. The operation, conducted on Tuesday, led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of unauthorized drugs and pharmaceutical products.
Details of the Raids
According to officials, the DCA team inspected several medical shops across different areas of Kulgam. During the inspections, they found that many stores were operating without valid licenses and were selling medicines that had passed their expiry date. The authorities also confiscated drugs that were not approved for sale in the region.
Seizure and Legal Action
The seized items included a variety of antibiotics, painkillers, and other prescription drugs. The DCA has registered cases against the owners of the medical stores under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Further investigations are underway to determine the source of these illegal medicines.
Public Health Concerns
The sale of expired and unapproved medicines poses a significant risk to public health. The DCA has urged residents to purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
This crackdown is part of a broader initiative by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products in the region. Similar raids have been conducted in other districts in recent months.
