Entrepreneurs demand urgent repair of roads, drains in Adityapur

Entrepreneurs in Jamshedpur's Adityapur industrial area have called on government authorities to urgently repair dilapidated roads and clear clogged drains ahead of the monsoon season. Business owners warned that severely damaged streets will soon become impassable due to heavy rains.

ISRO submits representation to JIADA

Rupesh Katriyar, president of the Industrial Sustainability and Reform Organisation (ISRO), Adityapur, highlighted that rainwater will submerge potholes and craters, creating hidden hazards that put motorists and pedestrians at high risk of accidents. To address these concerns, ISRO submitted a formal representation to JIADA Regional Director Prem Ranjan on Wednesday, requesting immediate action.

Critical drainage and infrastructure issues

Industrialists also pointed out critical drainage and infrastructure problems. Santosh Khetan, an industrialist and former president of the Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA), noted that clearing clogged drains is a time-consuming process that municipal officials must start immediately. He added that many drains are structurally broken and require urgent repairs. Furthermore, entrepreneur Mahesh Sonthalia emphasized that roads need complete resurfacing, not just minor patchwork, to withstand heavy truck traffic transporting raw materials and finished goods.

Power cable replacement demanded

Beyond road and drainage concerns, business owners called for the immediate replacement of frayed overhead power cables, which currently cause summer blackouts. They stressed the need to prevent short circuits and electrical fires during the rainy season. “Last year, the situation in the industrial area was deplorable. Days of heavy rain left damaged roads inundated, clogged drains overflowing, and caused frequent power outages,” said entrepreneur Samir Singh.

Authorities respond

JIADA regional director Ranjan assured entrepreneurs that the streets and drains would be repaired by the end of June. JBVNL (Adityapur) executive engineer Sandip Kumar stated, “Work is under way to replace the faulty cables.”
