Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Nikita Khattar has issued a strong appeal for road safety, highlighting that 38 people have been killed in 88 accidents across the district in the first half of 2026. The plea comes after recent fatal crashes near Dungargarh in Rajasthan and Amani near Tohana claimed multiple lives, leaving families devastated.
Rising Accident Toll
According to data shared by Khattar, Fatehabad district recorded 228 road accidents in 2025, resulting in 187 injuries and 94 fatalities. In 2026, up to June, 88 accidents have already been reported, with 78 people injured and 38 dead. “These are not just statistics but stories of families who have lost their loved ones forever,” Khattar said.
Common Causes and Preventive Measures
The police identified major causes of accidents: overspeeding, drunk driving, mobile phone use while driving, wrong-side driving, traffic rule violations, and dangerous overtaking. Khattar urged motorists to choose responsibility over speed, noting that a few minutes saved are never worth risking a life. She appealed to two-wheeler riders and pillion passengers to wear ISI-certified helmets and insisted that all four-wheeler occupants use seat belts. “Helmets and seat belts are meant to save lives, not merely to avoid traffic challans,” she stressed.
Shared Responsibility
Khattar emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility and not solely the duty of the traffic police. She advised against driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, using mobile phones while driving, and urged adherence to lane discipline and traffic signals. Extra caution was recommended during adverse weather conditions and at night.
