Haryana grants 100% tax concession on new BS-VI, EV, CNG trucks

The Haryana cabinet on Monday approved a 100 per cent motor vehicle tax concession on the purchase of new BS-VI or stricter emission norms, electric vehicles (EV), and CNG trucks and buses in the National Capital Region (NCR) districts of the state. The decision is part of a scheme to support the National Capital Region Planning Board's efforts to reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality.

Eligibility and Benefits

Under the new scheme, eligible beneficiaries replacing old trucks and buses that comply with BS-IV or prior emission norms will receive a full exemption from motor vehicle tax for a period of 10 years. Additionally, a 50 per cent motor vehicle tax concession will be granted on the purchase of used BS-VI or stricter norms, EV, and CNG trucks and buses, also valid for 10 years.

Beyond tax concessions, the scheme includes a waiver of registration fees for new vehicles purchased under the program. Beneficiaries participating with old trucks and buses will also receive a waiver of liabilities that have been pending for more than one year. The Governor of Haryana has extended this waiver to outstanding liabilities for old BS-IV or prior emission norm compliant trucks and buses registered in NCR districts.

Impact on Fleet and Emissions

The incentives are expected to accelerate fleet modernization and significantly reduce vehicular emissions. According to a government spokesperson, the scheme will benefit 93,458 trucks and 16,329 buses across NCR districts of Haryana. By encouraging the replacement of older, more polluting vehicles, the initiative aims to improve air quality in the region.

This move aligns with broader efforts to combat air pollution in the NCR, where vehicular emissions are a major contributor. The concession applies to both new and used vehicles meeting BS-VI standards or stricter, as well as EVs and CNG models, promoting cleaner fuel alternatives.
