In a remarkable achievement for rural governance, Shansha gram panchayat in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh has been awarded the first prize in the 'Socially Just and Socially Secured Panchayat' category at the National Panchayat Awards 2026. The panchayat received a cash award of Rs 1 crore for its outstanding initiatives in social security, employment generation, healthcare coverage, women's participation, and inclusive governance.

Meanwhile, Lohardi gram panchayat in Mandi district secured the joint third prize in the 'Clean and Green Panchayat' category, receiving Rs 25 lakh. The panchayat was recognized for its work in waste management, maintaining Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, composting, clean energy adoption, and environmental conservation. This achievement highlights the panchayat's commitment to sustainable development and ecological balance.
Award Ceremony in New Delhi
The awards were presented by Union Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh at a function held in New Delhi. The ceremony celebrated the best practices in panchayat governance across the country and encouraged local bodies to strive for excellence in service delivery.
