Lucknow: Police arrested a hotel owner on Wednesday, a day after a pedestrian died after being hit by falling construction debris in the Chinhat police station area.
Arrest Made Within 24 Hours
Station house officer Dinesh Chandra Mishra confirmed that the accused, Vishal Tiwari, 35, a resident of Suryas Enclave in Naubasta Kala, was taken into custody within 24 hours of the incident. Police alleged that Tiwari threw cement debris from a rooftop, leading to the fatal outcome.
Details of the Incident
The arrest follows the death of Anup Kumar Singh, 36, a service manager at a car showroom. Singh was struck by a sack of construction debris that allegedly fell from the second floor of an under-construction building in the Vasundhara Vihar locality of Naubasta Kala village on Tuesday morning.
According to police, Singh, originally from Deoria district, was walking to work when accumulated cement debris was allegedly thrown from the rooftop without checking the road below. The sack reportedly hit him, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rushed Singh to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Legal Action Taken
On the complaint of Singh’s wife, Ritu, the Chinhat police registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said Tiwari was arrested from Dhawa Mod in Chinhat. Further investigation is ongoing to determine if any other individuals were involved in the incident.
The tragic event has raised concerns about safety measures at construction sites in residential areas. Authorities have urged builders and workers to exercise caution to prevent such accidents in the future.
