IMD Lucknow Invites Public for Special Open House on 151st Foundation Day
The regional meteorological centre in Lucknow is preparing for a unique celebration. On Wednesday, the centre will mark its 151st Foundation Day by opening its doors to the public for an entire day.
A Day-Long Outreach Programme
This special outreach programme offers citizens a rare opportunity to see inside the weather department. The Indian Meteorological Department established its operations on January 15, 1875. Since that time, it has provided essential weather services across the entire country.
The Lucknow centre will host its open house at the campus located within Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. The event runs from 11am until 4pm on Wednesday.
Who Can Attend and What to Expect
The invitation extends to a wide range of visitors. Students, farmers, researchers, and media representatives are all welcome to participate. During their visit, guests will receive a comprehensive walkthrough of the forecasting infrastructure.
Visitors will see firsthand the specialized equipment used to monitor weather conditions. They will learn how meteorologists track atmospheric changes and predict weather patterns.
Educational Opportunity for the Community
Senior scientist Mohammad Danish from the IMD explained the purpose behind this initiative. "The open house will make people aware of how weather services work," he stated clearly.
Danish emphasized the practical applications of this knowledge. "People will learn how they can use forecasts and warnings in their daily life and planning," he added. This educational aspect represents a key goal of the Foundation Day celebration.
The event promises to bridge the gap between meteorological science and public understanding. By welcoming citizens into their operational space, the IMD hopes to demystify weather forecasting processes.
