In a significant breakthrough, a joint team of health officials and police from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana dismantled an illegal interstate foetal sex determination racket in Amroha on Wednesday, resulting in the arrest of six individuals.
Operation Details
Acting on repeated intelligence inputs, a coordinated raid was executed at a house located in Chak Ki Madaiya Sataida village. The syndicate allegedly employed middlemen to transport pregnant women from Delhi and Haryana to this remote location for conducting illegal prenatal tests using a portable ultrasound machine.
Financial Exploitation
The accused charged exorbitant fees from their clients, with costs ranging between ₹35,000 and ₹48,500 per test, exploiting the desperation of families seeking to determine the sex of the fetus.
Arrest and Seizure
During the operation, the primary accused, identified as Devendra, attempted to flee from the scene. However, after a relentless chase spanning approximately 1.5 kilometers through agricultural fields, he was apprehended by the authorities. The team seized the portable ultrasound machine and recovered a sum of ₹1.33 lakh in cash from the premises.
Hasanpur Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumar Tiwari confirmed that a case is being registered against the six detainees under relevant legal sections, based on the complaint filed by the health department.
