Appointment as Patron
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Satinder Singh has been formally appointed as the Patron of the Surjit Hockey Society, following the society's constitutional provision that designates the serving Police Commissioner of Jalandhar as its patron. A delegation from the society visited the Commissioner on Wednesday to hand over the official appointment letter.
Delegation and Presentation
The delegation included working president Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira, CEO Iqbal Singh Sandhu, general secretary Surinder Singh Bhapa, and other members, led by LR Nair. During the meeting, they briefed Commissioner Satinder Singh on the society's recent achievements and shared details about the preparations for the 43rd Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament, which is scheduled to take place in October. The delegation also emphasized the society's ongoing grassroots development initiatives aimed at promoting hockey at the foundational level.
Commissioner's Response and Support
Accepting the honorary position, Commissioner Satinder Singh praised the Surjit Hockey Society for its longstanding contributions to Indian hockey. He noted that the Surjit Hockey Academy currently trains over 125 young players aged 4 to 18 under the guidance of Olympians, Dronacharya Awardees, and experienced coaches. Expressing confidence in the academy's training system, he stated that it is poised to produce strong hockey talent in the coming years. He also assured full support from the police administration for the development of the organization and the sport.
Felicitations and Recognition
On the occasion, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manpreet Singh was felicitated by the Surjit Hockey Society in recognition of his support and association with the organization. The society acknowledged his contributions to fostering hockey development in the region.
