The Ludhiana municipal corporation launched a major crackdown on unauthorised structures on Tuesday, targeting five illegal constructions, including an entire colony. The demolition operations were carried out across multiple locations under MC Zones A and D.
Zone A Operations
In Zone A, a team led by assistant town planner Kapil Dev demolished an under-construction colony and a commercial building in Nanak Nagar (Karabara Basti). The officials also sealed another illegal commercial building in the same area. Additionally, the team demolished an under-construction industrial building in Hira Nagar on Kakowal Road. The action was taken because the facility was being built hazardously beneath high-tension electricity wires, posing a serious safety risk.
Repeat Offenders Penalised
Simultaneously, a Zone D team, led by ATP Raj Kumar and building inspector Kuljit Mangat, flattened an illegal structure in the Ghumar Mandi area. According to officials, the site had previously faced enforcement action in May. However, the owner restarted construction works regardless, prompting Tuesday's demolition. This repeat violation underscores the corporation's zero-tolerance policy towards unauthorised building activities.
Directions from Municipal Commissioner
The enforcement drive was executed following directions from municipal commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta, who stated that the campaign will continue over the coming days. She emphasised that the corporation is committed to ensuring all constructions comply with approved building plans and safety regulations.
Appeal to Residents
Civic officials urged residents to initiate construction works only after securing formal approval for their building plans from the corporation. They warned that any illegal construction would face strict action, including demolition and sealing. The corporation also advised citizens to verify the legality of any property before purchasing or investing.
