In a bold move to tackle the growing menace of illegal garbage disposal, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has launched special night patrols across the city. These surveillance teams are working during nighttime hours to catch residents and commercial establishments red-handed while dumping waste on roads and public spaces.
Midnight Surveillance Initiative
The civic body has formed dedicated squads that operate from 8 PM to 4 AM, focusing on areas that have become notorious for illegal garbage dumping. These teams are equipped with the authority to issue challans and penalize offenders on the spot.
Enforcement Strategy
Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Kumar revealed that the night patrol initiative comes as a response to numerous complaints about garbage being dumped indiscriminately after dark. "Many people wait for nightfall to dispose of their waste improperly, thinking they won't be caught. Our night teams are changing that equation," Kumar stated.
On-the-Spot Penalties
The enforcement teams have been authorized to impose immediate fines ranging from ₹500 to ₹5,000 depending on the severity of the violation. Commercial establishments found dumping construction debris or large quantities of waste face even steeper penalties.
Problem Areas Under Scanner
Specific locations including commercial hubs, market areas, and residential zones that have repeatedly violated waste disposal norms are being closely monitored. The MC has identified several hotspots where illegal dumping has become a regular practice.
Public Cooperation Sought
While enforcement remains key, the municipal corporation is also appealing to citizens to cooperate in keeping the city clean. Officials emphasize that proper waste segregation and using designated collection points are essential for maintaining urban hygiene.
The night patrol initiative represents Ludhiana MC's renewed commitment to urban cleanliness and proper waste management practices. As the teams continue their surveillance, the corporation hopes to see a significant reduction in roadside garbage dumping across the city.
