Madurai Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar conducted a comprehensive inspection of several civic infrastructure projects across the city on Thursday. His review focused on water supply, sanitation, and public amenities, ensuring efficient service delivery to residents.
Inspection at Arasaradi Water Pumping Station
At the Arasaradi Water Pumping Station, Commissioner Kumar assessed the daily supply of drinking water to corporation wards through tanker lorries. He examined chlorine levels, water-filling operations, and the functionality of GPS and sensor devices installed in the vehicles. Additionally, he reviewed records related to water distribution schedules to ensure timely and adequate supply.
Review of Amma Canteen and Central Kitchen
Commissioner Kumar visited the Amma Canteen in the Arapalayam-Melaponnagaram area, where he inspected the daily menu, patronage, and available amenities. He also toured the central kitchen that prepares meals for corporation sanitation workers and reviewed food distribution arrangements across various zones.
Focus on Sanitation and Cleanliness
During the inspection of Melaponnagaram, the commissioner directed officials to expedite the removal of garbage accumulated in the Chinthamani channel. This directive underscores the corporation's commitment to maintaining cleanliness and preventing health hazards.
Visit to School and Heritage Site
Commissioner Kumar later visited Aathimoolam Corporation Primary School in the Simmakkal-LNP Agraharam area, where he inspected drinking water and toilet facilities. He also reviewed the renovation work at the historic Rani Mangammal Chathiram near the railway junction, emphasizing the preservation of cultural heritage.
City Health Officer Arvind Jyoti, Assistant Commissioner Prabhakaran, engineers, and other corporation officials accompanied the commissioner during the inspections.
